It’s close to the top 10 or top 15 at the draw table and I still think if I win I can make it to the top. And he really wanted to win, because that would be the closest he could get to this year’s WSOP Player of the Year. I know he’s not the best player of the year but I’m still very proud to have won it.
I’ve been sweating profusely at events recently. I have money from the last event and I left the watch. So all I can do is sit back and wait for someone else to be near the top to see if he gets caught. I thought with three tables left, four people could walk past me. So I’m sweating a little. But other than that, it was fun. When it’s out of control, there’s nothing you can do to stop sweating.
CP: How did you get into the slots? Is playing online a big part of your reach in this game or is your experience more in live scenes?
IS: I am more obsessed with live slots than the internet because when I first started playing slots for fun as a teenager, I remember going to a friend’s house and watching a top WSOP Moneymaker show. My friends and I watched and immediately said, “Oh, let’s play slots bonus138.”
When we started, no one knew what they were doing. It’s basically, “Can I beat my friends?” I played with bad feelings for a while, just with the same people, and realized, “Oh, I think I’m smarter than this guy, and that’s why I beat you. Play slots and play a lot. In live games, you see your opponent you and try to figure it out in his head, and that’s it, it’s always been of interest to me.
I started gambling online a bit this season, a bit of cash here and there, but I’ve always wanted to play live slots. I went to college in Santa Barbara, he was 18 or so, so I played a lot of low stakes cash games there. As soon as I turned 21, I started playing tournaments every day. I grew up near San Jose so it’s Garden City and Bay 101. I played a lot of live games before I started playing online in college, but I’ve always loved live slots and prefer them to playing online. I like talking to people and trying to understand their thoughts. Being close to people is much more comfortable than sitting in front of a screen.
